THE PHOENIX…
You know the story of the phoenix? Okay. Maybe you don’t.
So It’s this mythological bird that obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor… it’s a story full of the promise of new life and the power of rebirth.
Our clients had lost their home in the Marshall fire in Boulder Country. They came to us to rebuild. We were honored, and humbled.
And whether by coincidence or cosmic irony, after we sat down and talked, and they told us their wants, needs, dreams and desires, it turned out the guiding principle for the design would be… a feather.
No. Not a phoenix feather. As far as we know the phoenix is still mostly a mythological creature, and has not been seen in Spanish Hills in… like… ever. No. A beautiful pheasant feather found by the family years ago.
The feather embodied the rich colors of the fabrics they would choose, suggested the subtle movement of the stone that would connect the interior of the house to the outside space. It would inspire the edgy black elements at the fireplace repeated in some of the lighting… and the addition of warm golden tones to add a hint of glam girl vibe for the amazing owner…and finally it would allow fur and animal patterns for fun, lightness and just a tad of whimsy…
It captured the spirit of our clients… and the goal of our design:
As light, and as beautiful as the feather… And as resilient as the Phoenix.
